Dental practices and treatment coordinators
AI Communication Coaching for Dental Practices
Amotions helps dental practices objectively evaluate real doctor-patient conversations against their own communication standards. Teams configure custom scorecards, analyze consultations after the fact, and coach with evidence, without distracting doctors during patient care. Communication quality is evaluated; clinical correctness is not.

The conversations we coach
Which dental consult conversations does Amotions coach?
The treatment conversations where case acceptance is won or lost: a patient unsure about the full plan, sticker shock in an implant consult, fear of a fake-looking result in a cosmetic consult, and “can I wait?” Amotions coaches how recommendations, concerns, and next steps are communicated, never which treatment to choose.
- Case acceptance
“I’m not sure I want to do all of this treatment right now.”
Amotions cues: Explore what is holding them back before reinforcing the recommendation. One clarifying question often reveals cost, fear, timing, or a spouse concern. Then agree on a concrete next step.
- Implant consult
“That’s a lot more than I expected for one tooth.”
Amotions cues: Acknowledge the investment, then ask what they want the result to let them do. Let the dentist explain the clinical options, and discuss phasing or financing only in practice-approved language.
- Cosmetic consult
“I don’t want it to look fake.”
Amotions cues: Ask what “fake” means to them and what they would like to change. Use the practice’s own approved examples and process, route clinical questions to the dentist, and never promise a result.
- Consequences of delay
“It doesn’t hurt yet, so can I wait?”
Amotions cues: Explain the consequences of delay with appropriate urgency and without fear tactics, tie the risk to the patient’s goals, then invite questions.
Hearing clinics use the same approach for device consults. See AI sales coaching for hearing health consults.
How it works
How does AI communication coaching work for a dental practice?
Practices define what great patient communication looks like, rehearse the hard conversations in AI roleplay, then score real consultations after the fact against that same scorecard. Most practices prefer post-conversation analysis so doctors stay focused on the patient during care.
Before the call
1Practice
Doctors and treatment coordinators rehearse case-acceptance, implant, and cosmetic consult conversations, price, and “can I wait?” in AI roleplay, scored on your practice’s criteria, with no patient recordings needed.
During the call
2Live
Optional. Where live guidance fits, such as coordinator or phone conversations, a private overlay on the team member’s screen suggests the next question. It never joins as a bot. Chairside, most practices skip live prompts.
After the call
3Review
Consultations are scored against your custom scorecard: rapport, discovery, explaining findings, a clear recommendation, consequences of delay, and patient agreement, with the one moment to improve next.
After the visit
How do you score a dental consultation after the visit?
A useful review turns one real consult into four things a doctor can act on: the criterion, a score, the evidence from the conversation, and one coaching recommendation. Scoring happens after the patient leaves, so the provider is never watching a prompt while the patient is in the chair.
Criterion
What was being evaluated, in your practice’s words: for example, “explored hesitation before restating the plan.”
Score
How well the conversation met that criterion. Scores exist only after a real consult is analyzed in your workspace; any score shown on a marketing page is a demonstration.
Evidence
The short excerpt that justifies the score, so the feedback is “here is the moment” rather than “be warmer.”
Coaching recommendation
The one improvement to try at the next consult, which can also become the next roleplay scenario.
Your standards
How do you build the scorecard from your practice’s own standards?
Start from your doctor-development checklist and patient-experience standards, not a generic sales rubric. Generic rubrics rarely match how a practice defines excellent care communication, and doctors ignore feedback on criteria nobody coaches them on.
A practical default set
Connection, discovery, diagnosis communication, treatment recommendation, consequences of delay, patient agreement, and overall communication quality.
Communication quality
Listening, warmth, confidence, pacing, clarity, empathy, and emotional responsiveness, scored as separate criteria so feedback points at one behavior.
Weight what you coach
Give the most weight to the criteria your doctors are actually coached on in huddles. If a criterion never comes up, it does not belong at the top of the scorecard.
Use your own language
Write criteria in the practice’s “what good looks like” wording, so a score reads like feedback from your own lead doctor.
Illustrative example
What does a scored consult moment look like?
Take one illustrative exchange, not a patient recording. The doctor recommends a treatment and the patient asks whether it really has to happen now. A technical checklist marks the recommendation as stated. A communication scorecard asks what happened next.
The moment
“Do I really need to do that now?”
The doctor has just said, “Based on what I’m seeing, I’d recommend treatment A.”
What a technical checklist sees
Findings explained, recommendation stated. On paper, the consult is complete.
What a communication scorecard asks
Did listening and emotional responsiveness show up before the plan was restated? Or did the doctor repeat the recommendation louder?
The coaching cue
Ask one question about what is holding the patient back (cost, fear, timing, a spouse) before reinforcing the recommendation.
What it is not
What does dental communication coaching not do?
It coaches how findings, recommendations, and next steps are communicated. It does not choose treatments, diagnose, or replace the dentist’s professional judgment, and it does not promise case-acceptance or revenue lifts, because treatment decisions depend on clinical findings, trust, cost, and timing as well.
Not clinical decision-making
Cues and scores are about communication. Clinical questions are routed to the dentist, and clinical correctness is not evaluated.
No outcome promises
The scorecard shows whether hesitation was explored and a next step agreed, not a guaranteed acceptance rate.
What not to upload
Do not upload patient recordings through public forms or a free trial account. Talk with the team about a healthcare deployment before analyzing real consults.
Start without recordings
AI roleplay needs no patient recordings, so teams can practice the hard consult moments before any real conversation is scored.
FAQ
Questions dental teams ask
Straight answers on privacy, playbook training, plans, and how Amotions fits the conversations your team already has.
Can AI help dentists improve patient communication?
Yes. Dental practices can use Amotions to practice consult moments, score real conversations against a custom communication scorecard, and coach providers on clarity, empathy, recommendations, and next steps.
How does Amotions help with dental case acceptance?
Amotions coaches how treatment options and concerns are communicated: discovery before the recommendation, a clear explanation, handling cost and timing questions, and agreeing on a next step. Case acceptance depends on many clinical and operational factors; Amotions focuses on communication quality and does not promise acceptance rates.
Can Amotions coach implant consultations?
Yes, the communication side of them. Coordinators and dentists rehearse implant-consult moments such as sticker shock and “can I wait?” in AI roleplay, then score real consults on rapport, discovery, explaining findings, a clear recommendation, and patient agreement. The dentist explains the clinical options; Amotions never recommends a treatment.
Can Amotions coach cosmetic dentistry consultations?
Yes. Cosmetic consults turn on expectations: what the patient wants to change and what worries them about the result. Amotions coaches teams to ask before presenting, use the practice’s own approved examples, route clinical questions to the dentist, and never promise an outcome.
Can dental practices create custom communication scorecards?
Yes. Practices can define criteria across connection, discovery, diagnosis communication, treatment recommendation, consequences, patient agreement, and communication quality, plus custom criteria from their doctor development checklist.
Can I upload recordings of real doctor-patient consultations and score them?
Yes. Once your practice’s healthcare deployment is set up, you upload audio of real consultations and Amotions scores each one after the fact against your own rubric, such as your doctor development checklist. Roleplay stays available for practice without using patient recordings.
Does it analyze tone of voice, or only the transcript?
Both. Amotions analyzes vocal tone and delivery from the audio itself, such as warmth, confidence, and pacing, alongside what was said. That is how a scorecard can tell a rushed, flat treatment explanation from a calm, reassuring one with the same words.
Does Amotions coach other cash-pay healthcare consults?
Yes. Hearing clinics use Amotions for roleplay, live coaching, and consult scorecards on hearing aid consults (/solutions/hearing-health-sales-coaching), and med spa and other elective practices use it for coordinator consults (/solutions/elective-healthcare-sales-coaching).
Is Amotions HIPAA compliant?
There is no official HIPAA certification, and Amotions does not claim one. Data is hosted on Google Cloud, encrypted in transit and at rest, and isolated per workspace. Each practice sets its own patient notice policy for recorded conversations. We sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with your practice, and our hosting provider, Google Cloud, is covered by a signed BAA with Amotions. Ask us for the BAA before you share patient information. Details: https://amotionsinc.com/security#healthcare.
Does Amotions join the call as a bot or notetaker?
No. Amotions runs as a private desktop or web overlay on the rep’s own screen. It never joins Zoom, Teams, or Meet as an attendee, and the person on the other side of the conversation never sees the prompts.
Which plan do I need to train Amotions on our own playbook?
Playbook-trained custom agents are on every paid plan, from Starter up. Start free on Basic to try coaching, roleplay, and scoring built around your own process, then move to Professional when you need more usage.
How long does it take to train Amotions on our playbook?
Teams upload their playbook, approved objection responses, product knowledge, and talk tracks. Calibration typically takes about one week, after which live prompts, roleplay scenarios, and scorecards use your language instead of a generic script library.
Are our calls used to train public AI models?
No. Amotions never uses customer conversations to train third-party foundation models. Workloads run in isolated, encrypted cloud environments separated by customer workspace. Details are on the Trust Center at /security.
Privacy and compliance
